An equation of state for property prediction of alcohol–hydrocarbon and water–hydrocarbon systems

چکیده
Equations of state have been widely used in the petroleum and chemical industries for thermodynamic property calculation. In the presence of polar substances that self-associate through hydrogen bonding (such as water or alcohol), equations of state are of very limited use. One way to account for the association is to consider the equation of state to be formed of two contributions: physical and chemical. In this work, we develop an equation of state consisting of two terms as proposed by Andreko [Fluid Phase Equilib. 65 (1991) 89], a chemical and a physical term, for correlation of thermodynamic properties of mixtures containing an associating species. This equation of state is used to correlate vapor pressure data for a number of associating molecules, such as alcohol and water, as well as bubble point pressure data for binary water–hydrocarbon and alcohol–hydrocarbon systems. The results obtained are in good agreement with the experimental data and requiring the use of only one adjustable parameter for each binary system. D 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

متن کاملA Correlation for the Prediction of the Adiabatic Joule-Thomson Coefficient of Pure Gases and Gas Mixtures
A correlation based on the general form of cubic equations of state has been derived. This equation provides a convenient mathematical form of the Joule-Thomson coefficient in terms of the state variable V and T. The Joule-Thomson coefficient calculated by this correlation has been compared with experimental data. It has been shown that the Redilich-Kwang equation of state is a suitable equ...
متن کاملPrediction of Vapor-Liquid Equilibria Using CEOS /GE Models
The present study investigates the use of different GE mixing rules in cubic equations of state for prediction of phase behavior of multicomponent hydrocarbon systems. To predict VLE data in multicomponent symmetric and asymmetric mixtures such as systems that contain light gases (nitrogen, carbon dioxide, etc.) and heavy hydrocarbons, the SRK equation of state has been combined with excess Gib...
متن کاملPrediction of methanol loss by hydrocarbon gas phase in hydrate inhibition unit by back propagation neural networks
Gas hydrate often occurs in natural gas pipelines and process equipment at high pressure and low temperature. Methanol as a hydrate inhibitor injects to the potential hydrate systems and then recovers from the gas phase and re-injects to the system. Since methanol loss imposes an extra cost on the gas processing plants, designing a process for its reduction is necessary. In this study, an accur...
متن کاملApplication of TDA technique to estimate the hydrocarbon saturation using MRIL Data: A Case study for a Southern Iranian Oilfield
Petrophysical evaluation of petroleum reservoirs is one of the most challenging tasks for hydrocarbon reserve determination. One critical petrophysical parameter is the water saturation which is normally calculated from Archie’s equation. Carbonate reservoirs, however, due to their complex mineralogy are not good candidates for Archie’s equation because Archie’s parameters are strongly dependen...
